The 4 Top Reasons You Instantly Look Old – And None You Will Expect
You don’t need plastic surgery to look younger….
Whether you are 40 or 70 you can age gracefully.
Just follow these 3 tips to feel and look great when you are over 40.
Posture – This is THE MOST important step to instantly looking younger – Walking, standing and sitting gracefully makes the biggest difference to how we are perceived by the outside world. Walking with a hunch or lazy shoulders makes you look old. Stand straight, hold in your core, sit straight and make sure to keep up yoga or stretching to keep your muscles lean and long.
Skin – You DON’T need plastic surgery! Look after your skin, These days there are MANY great cheap products.
A few things to know-
- Stay out of the sun
- Find the right products for YOU
- Some products only work from the inside EG: Q10. The particles are too big to ever penetrate the skin!
- Some of your skin regimes mean taking vitamins and minerals
- All these new Retinoids, Ascorbic Acids, Alpha Arbutin, Vitamin C, Acetyl Hexapeptide and more – These products are leading the way in younger-looking skin.
Hair – Your hair starts to thin over 40. So you now need to think differently about your hair. Your hair texture can also change from becoming grey.
ALSO – Your FACE tone changes! So suddenly you have grey hair (usually ashy) and now your skin is becoming dull, so now you have 2 issues going on.
Change your hairstyle. Sorry, your hair so long you can sit on it is NOT attractive when there are only 3 strands left due to aging. You are better off cutting your hair a little shorter, find a flattering cut that you can style yourself. Also, find a color that works for your skin tone (maybe your makeup needs to be toned down a little too).
Also, take the right vitamins & minerals as your hair thins.
Clothes – This is a HUGE ONE! One that many many women just don’t understand… I don’t think you need to dress like Madonna or Britney Spears (yes she is 41 now!!!!) You need to dress for your body, lifestyle, and personal style. If that means no heels that is fine! Just don’t wear crocs to your niece’s wedding just because “they are comfortable”. There are many comfortable shoes.
I use to keep up with the latest fashions, now all I care about is what suits me….
My 2 rules for the past 6 years have been:
1. If I don’t LOVE it 1000% I am not allowed to buy it… Even if this means I have “Nothing to wear”. just NO!
2. I am allowed to spend as much as I want on an item because I will be keeping it forever AND I will no longer be buying many items. I DON’T need 14 pairs of jeans: I only need 3 – so each pair can cost way more without me feeling guilty.
Too many women over 40 have a lot of clothes and nothing to wear… I have a very beautiful friend to who I have explained this too. Nothing “flatters” her. It’s all cheap and she continues to buy cheap and thinks I am crazy that I might spend $150 on a pair of jeans…hers are $40…. And you can see it. Yes occasionally you can buy a great cheap item, and yes I still look for bargains. But now I have a rule. Would I wear that on my friend’s private jet? If the answer is no then I don’t want it. So the $10 t-shirt could be amazing quality and a perfect fit, and the $200 t-shirt could make me look like a whale… I don’t think price or brand should be your reason for buying. ONLY whether it makes you look your best or not.
I remember these 2 female clients at my salon, both 65 years old.
And I remember Sandra was very well dressed and looked after herself, she came in one day and said she will be back in 6 weeks as she was having a mini facelift. I was excited for her, and when I saw he
r 6 weeks later she glided into the salon…. She looked FANTASTIC! Natural and fresh and I remember thinking I will make sure I look that great at her age….
A few weeks later my other client Jan said she was would be back in 6 weeks as she was having a mini facelift. I was excited for her and knowing how great my other client looked I was excited for her. She explained she had been saving for years! Jan came back in 6 weeks and it took me EVERYTHING not to look disappointed…. She has wasted her money. She actually looked no different and knowing it was possible to look amazing after a facelift I needed to work out what happened. I was in the beauty industry and I needed to know what happened. This is what I saw…. Jan should of kept her money, saved the risk of surgery and just a) brought some new clothes and walked with more grace…. When I assessed her against Sandra I realized Sandra always dressed modern and elegantly. Jan wore these same “grandma” navy blue pants and this very unflattering t-shirt. Sandra on the other hand wore Zara and tailored items. Not too young and not overly expensive, just flattering to HER figure and skin tone.
It’s time to change. It’s time to take a long hard look at what is working and what is really not. Just throw out the clothes that don’t suit you! It’s better to have 3 outfits that look amazing than 40 that look terrible.
TIP – Hold a clothes swap party with your friends/neighbors – One woman’s trash is another woman’s PERFECT outfit!
